Russia Today or RT, is a global news channel broadcasting from Moscow and Washington studios to over 100 countries around the globe. Their website RT.com was hacked and defaced sometime on March 1, 2014. They made an announcement on Twitter about the hack on March 1, 2014 at 11:04 PM EST.

There is no indication of user information being stolen and RT has not made an announcement that there was stolen user information. The hack seems to be solely for the purpose of website defacement. How was Russia Today’s website defaced? The term “Russia” was changed to “Nazi” and the term “Russians” was changed to “Nazis.”

We can assume the hack and defacement was because of the escalating conflict in Ukraine. Though, there is no word of who hacked and defaced Russia Today’s website and their reason why.

The defacement of Russia Today’s website has already been reversed. So, their website is fully restored.

There is also no word on how a hacker or hackers gained entry to their website and if that source has been secured, so this doesn’t happen again.
